The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a special inspection drive in Gurugram on 14.10.2026 to assess the presence of visible road dust and the effectiveness of road-cleaning and sweeping operations. It’s a part of continued efforts to strengthen implementation of dust mitigation measures and improve road cleanliness for effective abatement of air pollution across Delhi-NCR.

During the inspection, a total of 258 violations were observed relating to high visible road dust, accumulation of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste. Further, damaged footpaths and potholes were identified across the inspected road stretches. Out of these, 174 violations were observed on roads under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and 84 violations on roads under the jurisdiction of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
The Commission had deployed 4 Flying Squads to inspect roads under the jurisdiction of the MCG and GMDA. A total of 52 road stretches covering approximately 104 kms were inspected during the drive, including approximately 56 kms under MCG and 48 kms under GMDA. The inspection covered major road stretches in Gurugram, including roads in Palam Vihar, Pace City-I & II, Sectors 10, 21, 22, 23, Sikanderpur, Sectors 53, 56, 27, 43, 26, 42 and 54, Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, Dwarka Expressway, Daultabad Road and Dharampur Road, among other road stretches within the jurisdiction of MCG and GMDA.
The observations made during the inspection drive indicate the need for strict and effective implementation of prescribed road-cleaning, sweeping and dust mitigation measures by the concerned road-owning agencies. The Commission has emphasized that regular and effective road-cleaning and sweeping operations are critical for controlling road dust and preventing its re-suspension due to vehicular movement. Accumulation of road dust and C&D waste, along with damaged footpaths and potholes, contribute to increased dust generation and resuspension due to vehicular movement, thereby adversely impacting ambient air quality.
Further, MCG, GMDA and other concerned agencies have been directed to take necessary corrective measures to control road dust and address the gaps observed during the inspection on priority basis. The Commission has emphasized that road stretches under the jurisdiction of concerned agencies should be maintained in a clean and dust-free condition through regular sweeping, removal of accumulated dust and C&D waste and timely corrective action(s). The Commission has underlined that in case of non-compliance, strict action including prosecution as per law, may be taken.
Inspection drives shall continue across Delhi-NCR to assess on-ground implementation of various air pollution abatement measures, identify gaps in compliance and facilitate timely corrective action(s) by the concerned agencies.
