Education can open pathways to advanced learning, research and professional growth, for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

When the Government support is made available, the financial constraints disappear that help the aspirants to continue higher education.

Bhavesh A. Prabhakar, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, faced this challenge while aspiring to pursue a Ph.D.

Coming from a family with limited financial resources, Bhavesh experienced significant economic barriers that threatened his ability to undertake doctoral studies.

Despite these difficulties, he remained committed to advancing his knowledge and developing strong research skills.

Support through the National Fellowship for SC Students

The National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students (NFSC) Scheme became an important source of support in Bhavesh’s academic journey. His fellowship assistance began in December 2019, helping ease the financial difficulties that had made pursuing a Ph.D. uncertain.

Greater Focus on Education and Research

With financial pressure reduced, Bhavesh was able to focus more closely on his academic work. The assistance supported his efforts to pursue doctoral studies and work towards his goal of building research skills. His experience illustrates how financial assistance can help students continue advanced education when economic circumstances might otherwise limit their options.

Sustaining Academic and Professional Aspirations

Bhavesh is currently employed full-time. His journey highlights the role that targeted fellowship support can play in reducing economic barriers and helping students pursue their academic goals. By easing financial hardship, the NFSC Scheme has helped him continue working towards his Ph.D. and devote more time to learning and research.

Reflecting on the importance of the support, Bhavesh stated, “If I had not received the NFSC scholarship, I would not have been able to do my Ph.D.”

The fellowship helped address his financial concerns and enabled him to devote greater attention to education and research.

Bhavesh A. Prabhakar’s experience reflects the importance of making research opportunities more accessible to students from economically weaker backgrounds. Financial support can be a critical factor in enabling aspiring scholars to pursue advanced studies, strengthen their research capacity and work towards their long-term educational and professional aspirations.
