Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Goa International Airport, Dabolim, intercepted two domestic departure passengers carrying concealed Bluetooth devices meant for malpractice in competitive examinations on 10 October 2026. Both passengers were handed over to the local police along with the recovered items, and a case has been registered against them.
At about 1425 hrs, Passenger 1, booked to travel from Goa to Delhi on Air India Express flight IX-1340, placed his handbag for X-ray screening at the pre-embarkation security checkpoint. The CISF screener on duty noticed suspicious objects in the X-ray image and referred the bag for a physical check. The search led to the recovery of three electronic devices, two SIM cards and three Bluetooth earpieces of the type used for cheating in competitive examinations.
When questioned by CISF personnel deployed at Goa International Airport, Dabolim, Passenger 1 admitted that the devices were meant for cheating in examinations. He also said that an associate travelling with him had already boarded the same flight. With the help of airline staff, CISF personnel offloaded Passenger 2 from the aircraft. A search of his handbag led to the recovery of one similar device, two Bluetooth earpieces, one SIM card and an admit card for the post of Administrative Assistant in the IIT Goa Non-Teaching Staff Recruitment examination held earlier that day. He admitted that the device was meant for use in that examination.
Both passengers were then questioned jointly with the intelligence agencies concerned. Passenger 1 disclosed that he had appeared in the same examination in place of another candidate. Aadhaar cards of two other individuals, which he had thrown away in the security hold area, were also recovered. His claim of being a civilian employee of a defence establishment was verified with the authorities concerned.
Both passengers and all recovered devices and documents were handed over to Dabolim Airport Police Station. The examination centre falls under the jurisdiction of Ponda Police Station, so they were subsequently handed over there. A case has been registered against both, and the local police are investigating further.
CISF provides aviation security at airports across the country. In this case, the alertness of its screening personnel led to the detection of the devices and stopped the two passengers from leaving the State with material linked to the alleged examination malpractice.
