Kolkata Police and Rashtriya Raksha University Conduct Capacity-Building Programme Ahead of Festive Season
Programme focuses on women and child safety, victim-centred investigation and coordinated criminal justice response

Kolkata Police, in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), conducted a two-day specialised capacity-building programme on “Women and Child Safety, Victim-Centred Investigation and Coordinated Criminal Justice Response” on 05-06 October 2026 at the Police Training School, Kolkata. The programme was attended by 125 personnel of Kolkata Police.
Organised ahead of the festive season and the large public movement associated with Durga Puja, the programme focused on strengthening frontline preparedness for the safety of women, children and other vulnerable groups. The training covered POCSO, BNS, BNSS and BSA, trauma-informed investigation, first police response, risk assessment, digital and forensic evidence, cyber offences, preventive policing, multidisciplinary coordination and emergency response.
The initiative marks the first major training programme with Kolkata Police following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Rashtriya Raksha University. It reflects the shared commitment of both institutions towards professional, scientific and responsive policing and capacity building.
During the valedictory session, Shri Ajay Nand, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, emphasised the importance of empathy, sensitivity and trauma-informed response in dealing with crimes against women and children. He also highlighted the need for continued specialised training and capacity building in collaboration with RRU.
The programme strengthens the preparedness of Kolkata Police for the festive season and reinforces the importance of anticipation, professional policing and coordinated institutional response for public safety.
