The Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Asansol has launched a Workers’ Rights & Entitlements Awareness Drive to ensure that workers are aware of their statutory rights and know how to access them.
As part of the initiative, employers have been advised to prominently display a one-page awareness material in Hindi, English and Bengali at the main gate, canteen or other easily accessible locations in their establishments.
The awareness material provides workers with simple information on key statutory entitlements, including minimum and timely wages, overtime, equal wages, bonus, earned leave, gratuity, retrenchment and lay-off compensation, maternity benefits, employment injury and occupational disease benefits, migrant-worker and construction-worker benefits, workplace safety, appointment letters, wage slips, EPF and ESIC, as well as grievance redressal through the Samadhan Portal. It also provides office contact details and information on a workers’ awareness YouTube channel for further assistance.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between “rights provided by law” and “rights actually known and accessed by workers”, taking labour law awareness from the office to the workplace and ultimately to the ground level. Local trade unions, NGOs, civil society organisations and other stakeholders have been encouraged to support the initiative by spreading awareness and assisting workers in accessing their lawful entitlements.
Speaking on the initiative and thanking his team, Shri KC Sahu, deputy chief labour commissioner (Central), Asansol, stated that awareness is the first step towards effective implementation, and workers should know their rights and where to seek assistance.
