High-Level Jordanian Delegation Meets Secretary (Textiles) in New Delhi
India and Jordan Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Textiles and Apparel Sector

A high-level delegation from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, led by H.E. Mr. Zaher Al Qatarneh, Secretary-General, Ministry of Investment, met Ms. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (Textiles), Government of India, at the Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi, today to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in textiles and apparel sector.
The Jordanian delegation included H.E. Mr. Yousef Abdelghani, Ambassador of Jordan to India; Ms. Haya Iman, Director of Investment Promotion; and Ms. Noor Murad, Investment Promotion Officer. Senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles and the Ministry of External Affairs, along with representatives of the textile industry, also participated in the meeting.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, sourcing, investment and industry partnerships including Joint Ventures in the sector. Jordan’s textile and apparel imports from the world stood at around USD 2 billion in 2025, while India’s exports to Jordan were around USD 48 million, accounting for a 2.4% share and making India Jordan’s fourth-largest supplier.
The Indian side highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in apparels, fabrics, technical textiles, cotton textiles and made-ups, including opportunities for greater sourcing, investment and industry partnerships.

The two sides also explored opportunities for strengthening institutional and knowledge partnerships between leading fashion, design and textile institutions in India and Jordan, including student and faculty exchanges, design innovation and cooperation in AI-enabled fashion forecasting.

Both sides also discussed the possibility of reinvigorating the established institutional mechanism to facilitate structured and sustained engagement and follow-up on identified areas of cooperation in textiles & apparel.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to bilaterally engage and take forward the areas of cooperation identified during the discussions.
