Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana today assumed charge as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK). The Government of India appointed Shri Makwana to the post on 6 September 2026.

He has previously served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Safai Karamchari Commission, Government of Uttarakhand. He has also served as an Independent Director on the Board of NHPC and as a Member of the Central Monitoring Committee constituted under the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.

Upon assuming charge, Shri Makwana reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Safai Karamcharis and advancing their socio-economic well-being. He also emphasised strengthening the Commission’s efforts towards their welfare and empowerment across the country.

Shri Makwana holds a Master’s degree in Economics and has extensive experience in social work, particularly in matters concerning the welfare and empowerment of Scheduled Caste communities.
