Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur has continued to make its mark on the national and international mooting circuit, with its students securing top positions in prestigious competitions and demonstrating excellence in advocacy, legal research, strategy and teamwork. Recent achievements include a runner-up finish at the South Asia Regional Rounds of the 21st Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, 2026, and a runners-up position at the Asia Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition, 2026.

At the South Asia Regional Rounds of the 21st Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, 2026, organised by Lloyd Law College, Noida, from July 30 to August 2, a HNLU team comprising fourth-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) students Tamishra Chakraborty, Kritika Senthil Kumar and Malavika Chandra, along with third-year student Palak Anand, secured the runner-up position. The team also finished among the top 10 teams and qualified for the Final Oral Rounds to be held in Shenzhen, China.

 

Kritika Senthil Kumar was adjudged Best Speaker for the Claimant and also Best Speaker for the Final Round, while Tamishra Chakraborty received an Honourable Mention for Best Speaker for the Claimant.

 

In another significant achievement, a team comprising fourth-year Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) students Karnika Gera, Prashansa Verma and Arushi Yadav secured the runners-up position at the Asia Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition, 2026, organised by the Australian Disputes Centre from August 28 to 30. The team was also adjudged the Best Team for Relationship Building and was offered an internship opportunity with the Australian Disputes Centre. The performance highlighted the students' advocacy, negotiation, communication and collaborative skills.

 

The university's growing success on the mooting circuit is also being attributed to its Moot Clinic Exercise, introduced nearly two years ago in place of mid-term examinations. The initiative has expanded the pool of students exposed to mooting and provided them with structured opportunities to understand the discipline, participate in national and international competitions and compete successfully at the highest levels.

 

The Moot Clinic Exercise reflects HNLU's commitment to clinical legal education and its emphasis on developing practical advocacy skills from the early stages of legal education. The university has been strengthening this approach through faculty mentoring, the Moot Clinic model and sustained exposure to national and international competitions.

 

HNLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. C. Vivekanandan said the university had established itself as a strong contender on the mooting circuit, consistently securing frontline positions in major competitions. He said mooting serves as the equivalent of hands-on professional training for law students, much like practical training in other professional disciplines. At HNLU, hands-on advocacy begins from the first year, with the university focusing on implementing clinical legal education in its true spirit.

 

The university maintains that mooting is not merely a competitive exercise but an important component in the holistic development of a legal professional. It helps students strengthen legal research, written and oral advocacy, strategic thinking, teamwork, professional ethics and the ability to respond to judicial questions with speed and precision.

 

The recent achievements are part of HNLU's broader institutional effort to provide students with continuous exposure to advocacy from the early stages of legal education. Through the Moot Clinic model, faculty mentorship and participation in national and international competitions, the university is building a strong pipeline of capable, confident and professionally responsible young legal professionals.
