CSIR-SERC Organizes Jigyasa ATL Workshop for School Students in Ariyalur District

CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, in association with the CSIR Chennai Campus (CMC), organized a two-day Jigyasa ATL Workshop (Student–Scientist Connect) on September 2 and 3, 2026, across four schools in Ariyalur District, Tamil Nadu.

The interactive workshop was hosted at Government Higher Secondary School (Melanikuzhi), Government Boys Higher Secondary School (Sendurai), Government Higher Secondary School (Kodalikaruppur), and Government High School (Kollapuram). Around 300 students and 30 teachers participated in the initiative, which forms part of the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) Adoption and Mentoring Programme.

Designed to foster scientific curiosity and practical learning, the sessions featured scientific lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on experiments. Students constructed simple batteries from everyday materials to power LED bulbs and built working DC motors using copper wire, safety pins, and portable batteries.

Senior CSIR scientists, including Dr. S. Maheswaran, Dr. G. S. Ayyappan, Dr. A. Abraham, Dr. D. Kalpana, Dr. G. Saravanan, Dr. S. Sundar Kumar, and Shri R. D. Sathish Kumar guided the students, encouraging them to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications and problem-solving skills.
