The Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (MGAHV), Wardha, organised a special lecture on “Environmental Consciousness in Sanskrit Literature” on August 28, 2026, on the occasion of Sanskrit Day. Prof. Ramakant Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, delivered the keynote address online and highlighted the deep respect for nature embedded in Indian knowledge traditions. Referring to the Vedic expression “Mata Bhumih Putroham Prithivyah”, he said that harmony with nature has long been an integral part of Indian thought and remains relevant to contemporary environmental challenges.

The programme was chaired by Prof. Kumud Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, MGAHV, who highlighted the contemporary relevance of Sanskrit and its potential for research and application in the age of Artificial Intelligence. She emphasised the need to connect Sanskrit with modern technology and scientific developments to promote its wider study and use.

Organised by the Department of Sanskrit Literature, the programme featured discussions on Sanskrit, Indian knowledge traditions and environmental conservation. Faculty members, research scholars and students participated in the programme, reflecting on the relevance of ecological wisdom found in Sanskrit literature to present-day environmental concerns. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and Mangalacharan, followed by welcome remarks by Prof. Awadhesh Kumar, Dean, School of Literature.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Jagdish Narayan Tiwari, In-charge and Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit Literature, while Dr. Pradeep, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
