A Tripartite Agreement was signed  between the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Badminton Association of India (BAI), and Sports Authority of Assam (SAA) for strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting sporting excellence in the region on 28th August 2026. The agreement marks a significant step towards the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Swimming at the Amingaon Sports Complex, Guwahati.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, as the Chief Guest.

Representing the Sports Authority of India, Smt. Manjushree Dayanand, Deputy Director General, SAI, and Shri D. K. Mittal, Executive Director, SAI Regional Centre, Guwahati, were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that it was a very proud day for Assam and expressed his gratitude to the Sports Authority of India for taking responsibility for the Amingaon Swimming Pool Facility. He said that the involvement of SAI would provide a major boost to swimming in Assam and the Northeast and help athletes access better training opportunities and facilities.

The establishment of the Swimming NCoE is expected to strengthen the sports ecosystem in Assam and provide a dedicated platform for identifying, nurturing and developing promising swimming talent from across the Northeast.

As part of the agreement, the Olympic-size swimming pool at the Amingaon Sports Complex will be made available to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Swimming.

The centre aims to provide swimmers with a high-performance training environment, while identifying and nurturing promising sporting talent from Assam and across the Northeast and supporting athletes in their pursuit of national and international excellence.

SAI’s sporting presence in Assam includes four SAI Training Centres (STCs) at Tinsukia, Golaghat, Kokrajhar and Sualkuchi, along with NCoE Guwahati. The expansion of NCoE Guwahati with the inclusion of the Amingaon Swimming Facility further strengthens SAI’s contribution towards developing sporting talent in the state.
