The National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), Nagpur, organised the Valediction Ceremony of ‘Uttarayan-2026’, a seven-week Orientation Programme for newly promoted Assistant Commissioners of Income Tax, on August 27, 2026. Hon’ble Justice Anil S. Kilor, Administrative Judge, Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. A total of 105 officers, including 22 women officers representing 20 States and two Union Territories, underwent the programme, reflecting the diverse and pan-India character of the Indian Revenue Service. The programme was aimed at facilitating a smooth transition into their enhanced responsibilities while strengthening professional competence, leadership capabilities and commitment to public service.

The programme followed a competency-driven approach in line with the objectives of Mission Karmayogi and the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. Through classroom sessions, case studies, practical exercises, simulations, interactive discussions and experiential learning, the officers were exposed to contemporary aspects of tax administration, interpretation and application of law, leadership, decision-making, ethics, integrity and citizen-centric public service. Particular emphasis was placed on developing sound professional judgement, accountability, responsiveness and sensitivity in the discharge of statutory responsibilities.

Addressing the officers, Justice Anil S. Kilor congratulated them on completing the programme and wished them success in their new roles. He emphasised the importance of continuous learning and remaining open to new avenues of knowledge, particularly in view of emerging technological and administrative challenges. He noted that while technology can enhance professional effectiveness, its use must be guided by human judgement and responsibility. He also stressed that correct interpretation of law, objective appreciation of facts and reasoned decision-making remain fundamental to effective public service.

The valediction marked the completion of an intensive learning journey and the beginning of a new phase of professional responsibility for the officers. The Course Director presented the course report highlighting the key learning outcomes and academic and experiential components of the programme. The proceedings concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by the rendition of the National Song and National Anthem. The programme reaffirmed NADT Nagpur’s commitment to developing competent, ethical, technologically aware and citizen-centric tax administrators equipped to meet the evolving demands of public service.
