Mumbai, 27 August 2026
During the routine bridge inspection conducted on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway (NH-48) in Maharashtra on 27 August 2026, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) assessed the need for structural repair of the Vaitarna Major Bridge (middle bridge), constructed in 1965.
In view of road-user safety, repair work will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in approximately one month, subject to site conditions and progress of the works.

NHAI is closely monitoring the situation and has accorded priority to the safety of highway users. The temporary closure of the bridge is a precautionary measure to ensure safe and secure movement of traffic during the repair period.
NHAI regrets the inconvenience caused to commuters and appreciates their cooperation and patience during the repair works.
NHAI remains committed to maintaining safe, reliable and efficient connectivity for all highway users.
