Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today flagged off a Metro train themed around India’s freedom struggle at Central Secretariat Metro Station in New Delhi. The train showcases the lives, thoughts and contributions of freedom fighters, revolutionaries and other prominent personalities associated with India’s independence movement.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chouhan said that the initiative would provide Metro commuters an opportunity to learn about the country’s freedom movement and the sacrifices made by its national heroes. He said that the initiative would also help acquaint the younger generation with this important chapter of India’s history and inspire them with the courage and patriotism of those who fought for the nation.

On the occasion, Shri Chouhan also wrote the patriotic words, “Fairs will be held every year at the pyres of the martyrs,” on the Metro train as a tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.

Shri Chouhan said that the sacrifices and contributions of India’s martyrs and revolutionaries should continue to inspire generations to come. He appreciated the initiative and thanked Prabhat Prakashan, the Managing Director of Delhi Metro and the entire Metro team for their efforts in bringing the inspiring stories of India’s freedom movement closer to the people.

During the event, Shri Chouhan was also presented with books published by Prabhat Prakashan, including Apnaapan. Books highlighting the journey and story of the Delhi Metro were also showcased on the occasion.

The initiative seeks to make the everyday Metro journey an opportunity for citizens to connect with the nation’s history and draw inspiration from the ideals and contributions of India’s freedom fighters.
