Goa Science Centre, in association with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) – Goa Regional Centre, celebrated National Space Day by organising a series of programmes aimed at creating awareness and interest among students and the public about India’s remarkable journey in space exploration.

As part of the celebrations, the Science Centre is hosting a special exhibition titled “From Ancient Skies to Modern Horizon”, which was opened to the public on August 21. The exhibition showcases India’s achievements in space exploration, including major milestones of ISRO’s space missions, satellite technology, Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan missions, and the Gaganyaan programme.

A model of the Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover is also on display, providing visitors an opportunity to get a closer look at India’s lunar exploration efforts. The exhibition will remain open to the public until September 20, 2026.

A Space Exploration Quiz was organised for school students on August 25. The competition began with a written elimination round, with 34 teams from schools across Goa participating. The top four teams, selected on merit, advanced to the verbal round.

The team from Bhatikar Model High School emerged as the winner. Shree Ganesh High School secured the runner-up position, while The Rosary School and Vivekanand Dnyan Mandir High School jointly secured the third position.

A special presentation on the Indian Space Programme was also conducted for students. The presentation traced India’s space journey from the early days of the country’s space programme to its successful missions today, while also highlighting upcoming missions and future ambitions in space exploration.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Shri Abhimanyu Bhelave, Centre Head, Goa Science Centre; Dr. Satish Keluskar, President, IAPT-Goa Regional Centre; and Dr. Reshma Raut Dessai, Secretary, IAPT-Goa Regional Centre. The winners of the quiz competition were presented with prizes by the dignitaries.

The National Space Day programmes witnessed the participation of around 2,000 students, teachers and members of the public, reflecting the growing interest in space science and India’s achievements in the sector.

The Goa Science Centre has appealed to the people of Goa, particularly students and young science enthusiasts, to visit the exhibition in large numbers and learn more about India’s inspiring journey in space exploration.
