The Goa Science Centre, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), Goa Regional Council, will celebrate National Space Day with a series of programmes beginning August 21.

The highlight of the celebrations will be the exhibition “From Ancient Skies to Modern Horizon”, which will remain open to the public from August 21 to September 20 at the Goa Science Centre, Miramar, Panaji. The exhibition will be open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm and will showcase India's remarkable journey in space exploration.

The exhibition will feature key milestones of ISRO's space missions, satellite technology and India's landmark projects including Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Gaganyaan. Models of the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover will also be displayed, offering visitors an opportunity to get a closer look at India's lunar exploration programme. Entry to the exhibition is free, though the Science Centre's normal entry ticket will be applicable.

The celebrations will also include a Space Exploration Quiz and a popular science lecture on the Indian space programme on August 25. The quiz will be conducted in two stages, with a written elimination round and a verbal round, from 10 am to 1 pm. Teams comprising two participants from schools across Goa are expected to take part.

National Space Day is observed to commemorate the historic soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon's south polar region on August 23, 2023, an achievement that marked India's emergence as the first nation to reach the lunar south polar region.

The Science Centre and IAPT Goa Regional Council have invited students, teachers and the general public to participate in the celebrations, explore the exhibition and learn more about the wonders of space and physics.
