The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jaipur Branch Office, organized an “Industry Awareness Programme” and “Manak Manthan” for manufacturers and stakeholders associated with Thermally and Vacuum Insulated Water Bottles. The programme aimed to create awareness among industry stakeholders regarding the applicable Indian Standards, quality requirements, and the BIS certification process for thermally and vacuum insulated water bottles, as well as to discuss issues related to the need for amendments in the relevant standards.

The programme was chaired by Shri Aditya Das, Director & Head, BIS Jaipur Branch Office. Smt. Neha Agarwal, Joint Director, and Shri Lokraj Meena, Deputy Director, along with representatives from the concerned industry, participated in the programme. During the programme, detailed information was provided regarding the following Indian Standards:

  • IS 17526:2021 – Domestic Stainless Steel Vacuum Flasks/Bottles — Specification
  • IS 17790:2022 – Insulated Flasks for Domestic Use — Specification
  • IS 17803:2022 – Drinking Water Bottles (Copper, Stainless Steel and Aluminium) — Specification
  • IS 17569:2021 – Insulated Containers for Food Storage — Specification

BIS officials apprised the participants about the importance of product quality, safety, performance, testing requirements, and manufacturing products in conformity with the relevant Indian Standards. The process for obtaining a BIS licence, use of the Standard Mark, and the role of Indian Standards in ensuring the availability of quality and safe products to consumers were also discussed.

The participants were further informed that all the above-mentioned standards fall under the category of mandatory certification as per the applicable Quality Control Orders. Accordingly, the manufacture, storage and sale of products covered under these requirements without the BIS Certification Mark (ISI Mark) is illegal (except for certain exempted categories).

During the programme, industry representatives raised various technical and certification-related queries, which were addressed and clarified by BIS officials. Detailed discussions were also held with the participants on various issues concerning the need for amendments in the relevant standards. BIS assured the participants that the suggestions received during the programme would be forwarded to the concerned Technical Committee for consideration.

The programme played an important role in strengthening dialogue between BIS and the industry and in promoting a culture of standardization and quality.

The BIS Jaipur Branch Office urged industries to manufacture their products in conformity with the relevant Indian Standards and to accord highest priority to quality, safety, and consumer interests.
