Goa, August 15, 2026:

Various Central Government institutions and establishments across Goa celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and a strong sense of national pride. Flag-hoisting ceremonies, Guard of Honour, cultural programmes and recognition of dedicated employees marked the celebrations at different institutions.

The Goa International Airport, Dabolim, Airport Director Flt Lt Akash Deep hoisted the National Flag, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by the Central Industrial Security Force. Addressing the gathering, Flt Lt Akash Deep appreciated the dedicated efforts of the airport team and various stakeholders in ensuring smooth operations and quality passenger services.

Employees and key stakeholders who have demonstrated exemplary service and continued commitment to seamless passenger operations were felicitated on the occasion. The celebrations also featured performances by talented artists, who brought the terminal alive with music, rhythm and vibrant expressions of unity and freedom, adding to the festive spirit of Independence Day.

At the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Mormugao the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and a renewed commitment to scientific excellence. Dr. Thamban Meloth, Director, NCPOR, unfurled the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

In his address, Dr. Meloth highlighted the significant progress made by NCPOR in strengthening its infrastructure and research capabilities. He appreciated the contributions of scientists, engineers, research scholars and support staff whose work in polar and ocean research is helping enhance India’s scientific capabilities. He urged the NCPOR Staff to continue contributing to nation-building through scientific excellence and to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

At Doordarshan Goa, Shri Sandeep Srivastava, Deputy Director General, unfurled the National Flag of the morning the ceremony was followed by the rendition of the National Song Vande Mataram and the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana.

During the programme, Deputy Director, Vimalan Jay, Assistant Director of Programmes Savio de Noronha, and other staff members shared their thoughts on India’s freedom struggle and recalled some of the significant milestones in the country’s post-Independence journey. Their reflections highlighted the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and the remarkable progress made by the nation over the past eight decades.

The Independence Day celebrations across these Central Government institutions reflected a shared spirit of patriotism, dedication and public service. The programmes also highlighted the important contributions being made by employees and institutions in diverse fields towards the continued development and progress of the nation.
