Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
Nagpur Branch Office of BIS organized a Manak Manthan (Technical Meeting) on IS 1470 : 2025 Silicomanganese Specification (Fifth Revision) & draft standard MTD 14 (34612) WC Use of oxygen in iron, steel and non-ferrous metal foundries - Code of practice (First Revision) on 13 August 2026 at Nagpur.

The programme commenced with the BIS Manak Geet, and BIS officials welcomed the audience. After this, they presented information about the procedure for submitting comments on the portal regarding recently revised, newly published, and Wide Circulated Draft Standards. Later, they explained the objective of Manak Manthan and addressed the audience regarding the scope of IS 1470:2025 & Draft Standard MTD 14 (34612) WC. Thereafter, they delivered a detailed presentation on IS 1470:2025 Silicomanganese Specification (Fifth Revision) & draft standard MTD 14 (34612).

Following the presentation, the participants made comments on IS 1470:2025 & Draft Standard MTD 14 (34612) based on their practical experience and academic knowledge. Several comments received from the participants are being compiled for further necessary action on the Indian Standards. Moreover, all participants were informed about the free downloading of BIS standards. All participants were also informed about the procedure to obtain a BIS license and were encouraged to apply for it. Overall, the programme was very fruitful, and participants requested more such programs in the future, which is being considered by the BIS Nagpur Branch Office.
