The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project will be supported by three Rolling Stock depots - Sabarmati and Surat in Gujarat and Thane in Maharashtra, ensuring efficient maintenance and reliable operations of the high-speed trainsets.

The Sabarmati Rolling Stock Depot is being equipped for both light and heavy maintenance of trainsets. The facility will include Emergency repair shop, Wheel Re- profiling Shop, Car Body Repair Workshop, Equipment Workshop, Bogie Workshop, General Inspection Shop, Inspection Sheds, Train Washing Plant, ETP/STP and Garbage Disposal facilities, and stabling lines.

The depot will initially have 4 inspection lines and 10 stabling lines, which can be expanded in the future to 8 inspection lines and 29 stabling lines, providing substantial capacity for the growing operational requirements of the Bullet Train network.

Dedicated Bogie exchange lines and general inspection lines are also being provided in the workshop area to facilitate efficient bogie replacement, inspection and general overhaul of trainsets.

The inspection and workshop facilities are designed to accommodate 16-car trainsets, in line with the requirements of high-speed rail operations.

In keeping with the project’s focus on sustainable infrastructure, four reservoirs are being constructed at the depot for groundwater recharge and to meet its water requirements, supporting responsible and efficient water management.

The Sabarmati Rolling Stock Depot will serve as a critical maintenance hub, combining advanced facilities, future-ready capacity and sustainable infrastructure to support safe, reliable and efficient Bullet Train operations.

The Rolling Stock Depots on MAHSR shall be truly excellent green enterprises, benchmarked against the best such facilities in the world, and will have many "firsts" to their credit. Some of the types of the depot machineries shall be new for the country. The depots shall play a pivotal role in the high speed train maintenance and operations on the MAHSR corridor and will lead to rich learnings for the corridors to follow.
