10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been formed under the Central Sector Scheme for Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
1,175 FPOs have been set up under the scheme with 100% women members. Of the total shareholders across FPOs, about 40% are women. The scheme mandates that the Board of Directors or the Governing Body in each FPO should have minimum one woman member.
FPOs formed are operational and are engaged in activities such as input supply, aggregation, procurement, value addition and marketing of agricultural produce. 9865 FPOs have taken Management cost, 8357 FPOs have taken Equity Grant and 3140 FPOs have taken Credit Guarantee. Under the Scheme, each FPO is provided professional handholding support for a period of five years from the date of its registration through the designated Implementing Agencies. When an FPO exhibits low levels of activity, the Implementing Agency, through the CBBO, provides appropriate handholding, capacity building, business facilitation and market linkage support to improve its functioning and promote long-term sustainability.
The FPOs have been formed in different years since 2020-21 and are at different stages of development and business operations. Accordingly, their turnover varies, depending on the period of operation and the scale of business activities. The cumulative turnover reported by the FPOs formed under the Central Sector Scheme is ₹20,358 crore as on 31st July, 2026.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare SHRI RAMNATH THAKUR in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
