To promote sustainable farming practices and improve soil health, ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, under the ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Old Goa, organised a live demonstration on Vermicompost Production and Its Application at Guirim, Bardez, on July 29.
Agricultural Scientist Mr. Rahul Kumar conducted the hands-on demonstration, explaining the complete process of vermicompost production. The session covered the selection of suitable organic materials, maintenance of optimum moisture, the role of earthworms in the decomposition process, and the production and harvesting of quality vermicompost. Participants were also encouraged to adopt vermicomposting as a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and sustainable farming practice.

The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers and students about scientific vermicomposting and its importance as an effective technology for sustainable nutrient management. The demonstration highlighted how vermicomposting helps recycle organic waste into nutrient-rich manure, improves soil health, and reduces dependence on chemical fertilisers.

A total of 24 participants, including farmers from the locality and students of St. Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim, actively participated in the demonstration.
