12th National Handloom Day to be Celebrated in Solapur
Weavers' Service Centre, Mumbai to Organise Day-long Programme on 7th August

The Weavers' Service Centre (WSC), Mumbai, under the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, will organise a day-long programme to commemorate the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Ramchandra Burla Mangal Karyalaya, Solapur.
National Handloom Day is observed every year on August 7 to generate awareness about the importance of the handloom sector and its contribution to the country's socio-economic development. The observance also aims to promote handloom products, enhance the income of handloom weavers and foster pride in India's rich handloom heritage.
As part of the nationwide celebrations, the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms has planned a week-long series of activities, including exhibitions, social media campaigns, screening of short films and documentaries, and other promotional programmes across the country. The Solapur event is one of the regional celebrations being organised simultaneously in prominent handloom clusters.
The programme at Solapur will focus on creating awareness about various Government initiatives for the development of the handloom sector, including the Block Level Cluster Programme, India Handloom Brand, Handloom Mark, Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, Insurance Schemes, e-Commerce initiatives, e-Dhaga and Geographical Indication (GI). The event will also feature presentations on local success stories, interaction with handloom weavers, and an exhibition of handloom designs, samples and products by the Weavers' Service Centre, Mumbai.
Various dignitaries will be present at the inaugural programme. National Awardees, Sant Kabir Awardees, National Merit Certificate holders, designers, representatives of textile-related organisations and handloom weavers' cooperative societies from across Maharashtra under the jurisdiction of the Weavers' Service Centre, Mumbai, have been invited to participate in the celebration.
