The Government is promoting the growth of the Information Technology (IT) sector across the country through various initiatives, including the Software Technology Park (STP) Scheme. Under the scheme, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has established 73 centres across the country, including six centres in Maharashtra at Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Kolhapur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

The STPI Centre at Kolhapur has been established in approximately 6,600 sq. ft. of built-up area with 62 fully furnished plug-and-play incubation seats, conference and meeting rooms, a Network Operations Centre (NOC) and other infrastructure to support start-ups and entrepreneurs. The centre also provides incubation, high-speed data communication, cloud services and statutory support services, besides facilitating interaction with venture capitalists, mentors from IITs, NITs and industry experts.

During FY 2025–26, seven registered STPI units at the Kolhapur Centre reported estimated IT exports of ₹241.49 crore, reflecting the growing IT ecosystem in the region.

The Government of Maharashtra is also supporting the sector through fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, including tax rebates and electricity tariff concessions under the State IT Policy. According to the State Government, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) developed an IT Park spread across 1.60 hectares in Kolhapur in 2003, where three designated plots are fully operational with active IT enterprises. The city presently has 372 IT/ITES units, employing approximately 9,000 people.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Jitin Prasada, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
