National Institute of Homoeopathy

National Institute of Homoeopathy is conducting the following project in collaboration with National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Kolkata, Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur & Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital, Ranchi in the following title (ongoing project):

1. Study on the molecular mechanism of Podophyllum peltatum mother tincture and its dilutions on the hepatocellular carcinoma: an in vivo study” (With NIPER, Kolkata)

2. Approaches to Uncover the Basis mechanism of Multi-Component Remedy of Homeopathic Drugs in Pneumonia and chronic inflammation. (IIT, Kharagpur)

3. Effect of Hypericum perforatum Mother Tincture (Q) on Total Antioxidant Capacity in Periodontitis Patients as an Adjunct to Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy–A Randomized Controlled Trial. (ESIC Hospital, Ranchi).

NIH also promotes Ayush based research, education and capacity building through the CME Scheme, and other training and faculty development programmes.

North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH)

There are two clinical research currently being undertaken by NEIAH, Shillong.

1. Ayurveda research under Ayurswasthya Yojana titled “Promoting the Ayurveda interventions for Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) among tribal females (18 to 45 year of age) in Mawpat and Mylliem Block of East Khasi Hill District of Meghalaya.

2. Research project on “Effectiveness of Punarmavadi Mandura in the management of Anaemia in Older Adults: A Community-Based Study, under the Team SMART 3.0 Program.

Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN)

Initiative- CCRYN has undertaken research projects, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, Research Methodology workshops, faculty development programmes, and capacity-building initiatives for researchers, Yoga professionals and healthcare providers.

Outcome- These initiatives have enhanced opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship by strengthening the pool of trained Yoga professionals, research personnel, therapists, instructors and wellness practitioners, besides promoting self-employment through Yoga & Naturopathy wellness centres, training institutes and community-based health promotion activities.

National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA)

The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur has undertaken several initiatives to promote Ayush-based research, education and capacity building.

1. The Institute conducts postgraduate (MD) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes in accordance with the prescribed academic and regulatory provisions. To promote evidence-based Ayurveda research, various academic departments undertake research projects, clinical studies and multidisciplinary collaborative research.

2. To strengthen research, education and capacity building, the Institute regularly organizes Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, under the guidance of the Ministry of Ayush, along with workshops, seminars and training programmes on research methodology, scientific writing, biostatistics and emerging areas of Ayurveda.

3. Further, the Institute promotes digital learning through the SWAYAM Portal. Faculty members and research scholars are encouraged to participate in national and international academic, research and capacity-building programmes.

These initiatives have significantly contributed to strengthening Ayurveda education, evidence-based research and institutional capacity building

National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN)

Initiatives- The National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) has strengthened research, education, and capacity building by establishing a dedicated Research Department and a Department of Health Research (DHR)-registered Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC). The Institute has conducted faculty development programmes, research methodology workshops, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, scientific writing workshops, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, and national conferences to enhance research competencies among faculty, researchers, and students. It has promoted clinical research, observational studies, systematic reviews, community-based and collaborative research in Yoga and Naturopathy, encouraged registration of clinical studies in the Clinical Trials Registry–India (CTRI), facilitated publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals, developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for research governance and publication ethics, and strengthened research infrastructure through laboratory development, digital research resources, and statistical support for investigators.

Outcome- The National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) has contributed to enhancing employability and entrepreneurship in the Ayush sector through specialized academic and skill development programmes. The Fellowship Programme in Research Methodology has strengthened competencies in research design, biostatistics, scientific writing, ethics, and evidence generation, preparing participants for careers in research, academics, and doctoral studies. The Therapist Assistant Training Course (TATC) has developed a skilled workforce of therapy assistants for employment in naturopathy hospitals, wellness centres, yoga institutes, and integrative healthcare facilities. In addition, the Certificate Programme in Ozone Therapy, Fellowship Programme in Acupuncture, and Fellowship Programme in Lifestyle Medicine have equipped healthcare professionals with specialized clinical skills, enabling them to expand their scope of practice, establish independent clinics and wellness services, and improve employment opportunities in hospitals, wellness centres, and integrative healthcare settings. These initiatives have strengthened the availability of trained human resources while promoting entrepreneurship and evidence-based practice in the Ayush sector.

National Commission for Homeopathy

Initiatives- The National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen homoeopathy education, research orientation and capacity building, inter alia, as follows:

1. Implementation of competency-based curricula for BHMS and MD (Homoeopathy) programmes through notified regulations.

2. The commission has notified the Homoeopathy Graduate degree course B.H.M.S. regulation on 7.12.2022 wherein research methodology subject is introduced at undergraduate level to promote young researchers.

3. The commission has notified National Commission for Homoeopathy (Medical Research in Homoeopathy) Regulations 2023 on 1st December 2023 for the promotion of research in Homoeopathy.

4. The National Commission for Homoeopathy has formed aHomoeopathic Research Regulation Committee under Homoeopathy Education Board for conducting and promoting research on Homoeopathy throughout India.
5. For each department of Homoeopathy College, methodology for supplementing modern advancement, research and technology in homoeopathy (SMART- Nom) is included in regulation.
6. The Commission has conducted research methodology training for post graduate students and teachers in association with scientist of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy.
7. Collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) and other institutions for strengthening research orientation among students and faculty.
8. Digital initiatives, including the AYUSH Education Portal and other academic platforms, have been introduced to improve governance, transparency and quality in homoeopathy education.

Outcome- Initiatives undertaken by National Commission for Homoeopathy resulted in increase in employment. Implementation of competency-based curricula for Homoeopathy courses has created the requirement of more teaching faculties for developing the education standard. In this regard there is increase of 12 full time teachers in a Homeopathic medical college having 100 bedded Hospital (Requirement of 40 full time teachers as per new regulation of Minimum essential standards 2024, compared to previous requirement of 28 teachers).

The commission has notified the Homoeopathy Graduate degree course B.H.M.S. regulation on 7.12.2022 wherein research methodology subject is introduced at undergraduate level with the requirement of Statistical assistant in the Department of Community medicine.

The introduction of Research Methodology and biostatistics in the The National Commission for Homoeopathy (Homoeopathy Post-Graduate Degree Course- Doctor of Medicine in Homeopathy) Regulations, 2024 introduces one Associate Professor/Professor - Research Methodology & Biostatistics.

One male and one female Yoga instructor for every Homeopathic college has been introduced in NCH Minimum Essential Standards (MES) Regulations, 2024. Additional teaching staff for the subjects of Pharmacology and Psychology has also increased the employment opportunity.

Digital initiatives, including the Ayush Education Portal and other academic platforms related to Research have increased the opportunity of employment of IT professionals.

Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)

The Government has undertaken several initiatives to promote Ayush-based research, education, and capacity building with the objective of strengthening the scientific evidence base of Ayurveda and integrating traditional knowledge with contemporary science. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, conducts research through its network of 30 institutes across the country. The Council undertakes multidisciplinary research encompassing literary, fundamental, drug standardization, pharmaceutical, pharmacological, microbiology and biotechnology, medicinal plant, clinical, and public health research. It also validates classical Ayurvedic formulations, develops new evidence-based interventions, standardizes drugs, and facilitates technology transfer for wider public health applications. Research activities are supported through collaborations with premier national institutions and adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, genomics, and proteomics. The Council conducts short-term training programmes, internships, fellowships, and various research promotion schemes such as SPARK, AGNI, PRAYTNA, and Post-Doctoral Fellowships. In addition, CCRAS publishes books, e-books, digitized resources, and other educational materials to promote research, knowledge dissemination, and capacity building in Ayurveda.

8.

PCIM&H

PCIM&H, on behalf of the Ministry of Ayush, periodically conducts Capacity Building Training Programmes for State Drug Regulators/Enforcement Authorities, Ayush-accredited State/UT Drug Testing Laboratories and Quality Control/Technical Personal Associated with ASU&H drugs, among others.

9.

Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA)

Initiative- Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda is actively involved in research activity in Ayurveda as 90 MD scholars and 33 PhD researches are conducted every year followed by the publications in refereed journals. Apart from these, IMR and EMR projects are also conducted in the Institute.

Outcome- The scholars of the institute are doing well in various sectors like academics, research and entrepreneurship.
