Tingong Wangpan wins gold medal at World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026

Sports Authority of India(SAI) National Centre of Excellence(NCoE), Gandhinagar trainee Tingong Wangpan has won a gold medal in the Men's 200m T37 event at World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026.

The Mexico leg of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 was held from July 17-24, 2026 in Tlaxcala city. Tingong is the first-ever para-athlete from Arunachal Pradesh admitted to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Gandhinagar, which is the country's best centre for training Para Athletes. The 21 year old has been training at the facility since October 2025. What is encouraging is that this was Tingong's first international event.

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media to praise Tingong, "Heartiest congratulations to Shri Tingong Wangpan on winning the Gold Medal in the Men’s 200m T37 event at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Wishing you many more successes in the years ahead. Arunachal Pradesh celebrates your triumph and stands proud of your achievement," Khandu wrote.

Earlier Tingong, had secured a Silver medal in the Men’s T-37 Sprint category at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 in May.
Tingong Wangpan had also secured a gold medal in the 100m (T35 category) and a bronze medal in the 400m (T35 category) at the 24th National Para Athletics Championships 2026, held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from March 17 to 21, 2026.
