The North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Government of India, and Friends of Women's World Banking, India (FWWB), a national-level not-for-profit organisation working towards the economic empowerment of women,  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Guwahati today for the promotion and market linkage of women artisans and weavers in the North Eastern states.

The MoU was signed by Shri Mara Kocho (IES), Managing Director, NEHHDC and Ms Neha Kansara, COO, FWWB along with senior officials from both organisations and marks the formal start of a collaborative programme aimed at strengthening women artisans and weavers as financially capable, enterprise-ready, quality-conscious and market-linked producers across the eight North Eastern states.

Signing the MoU Shri Mara Kocho said that this partnership with FWWB is an important step in strengthening the enterprise capabilities of women artisans and weavers across the North East. By combining NEHHDC's platforms and networks with FWWB's grassroots enterprise-development experience, it is  expected to help the artisans move beyond production to sustainable, market-linked

The partnership brings together NEHHDC's regional mandate, institutional platforms and networks with FWWB's community-level mobilisation and enterprise development expertise. Under the MoU, the two organisations will jointly work on cluster mapping and artisan mobilisation, financial education and enterprise finance readiness, entrepreneurship development, craft-linked skill upgradation and product development, quality, packaging and catalogue readiness, market linkage, and convergence with government schemes and social security.

Women artisans and weavers will also be facilitated to access NEHHDC offerings such as Purbashree, its retail and e-commerce platforms, institutional sales, exhibitions, buyer–seller events, skill programmes, textile testing and yarn and raw material support.
