NABARD Tamil Nadu Regional Office Celebrates 45th Foundation Day

The Tamil Nadu Regional Office of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated its 45th Foundation Day at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Chennai on 21st July 2026. The event was graced by Shri R. Vinoth, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of Tamil Nadu as the Chief Guest, Smt. P. Amudha, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection, Smt. Uma Sankar, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Chennai and Shri Shiv Bajrang Singh, Executive Director, Indian Bank. The event saw participation from senior bankers, state government officials, NGOs, SHG members, farmers and various stakeholders from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Marking the occasion, two key publications were officially released: the Booklet on Indicative Unit Cost of Investments in Agri & Allied Sector for FY 2026-27, designed to guide financial institutions on long-term crop loan structures, and the Annual Performance Booklet 2025-26. The event also showcased video documentaries highlighting NABARD’s impactful developmental interventions through the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) in Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.

Outlining the institution's financial footprint, Shri H. Manoj, Chief General Manager of NABARD’s Tamil Nadu Regional Office, reported that disbursements crossed over Rs. 73,000 crore during 2025–26 across key verticals including agricultural credit, rural infrastructure, fisheries, Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) promotion, and financial inclusion. He also highlighted that the State’s priority sector credit potential stands at an impressive Rs.10.61 lakh crore, reaffirming NABARD's commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure and climate resilience in the coming fiscal year.

Speaking at the event, Smt. Uma Shankar, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, commended NABARD’s leadership in executing the landmark SHG-Bank Linkage Programme, Joint Liability Group (JLG) financing, and grassroots financial inclusion, while urging the institution to drive innovative research solutions for climate change challenges. Concurrently, Shri Shiv Bajrang Singh, Executive Director, Indian Bank, applauded NABARD’s transformative role in scaling the national SHG movement—which has positively impacted around 40 crore lives—alongside its landmark efforts in land development and watershed management. The celebrations concluded with NABARD felicitating outstanding Women FPOs, project partners in watershed and tribal development, agri-startups incubated under the Madurai Agri Business Incubation Forum (MABIF), and exemplary Rural Financial Institutions for their contributions to rural economic growth.
