Enforcement raids were carried out by the team of officers of Bureau of Indian Standards, Ahmadabad on the premises of M/s Suvarna Abhushan Jewellers, Krishnagar, Naroda, Ahmedabad and M/s R S Zaveri, Nikol, Ahmedabad on 20.07.2026. During the operation, the above jewelers were found selling hallmarking jewellery without having a valid Certificate of Registration and also with fake hallmarking (Without HUID). During the operation more than 114 gms of Gold jewellery from M/s Suvarna Abhushan Jewellers, Krishnagar, Naroda, Ahmedabad and more than 134 gms of Gold jewellery from M/s R S Zaveri, Nikol, Ahmedabad were seized.

Selling of Gold jewelry with fake or without hallmarking (HUID) is a violation of Section 14 and 15 of BIS Act, 2016. The offence is punishable with imprisonment upto one year or a fine not less than Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh) but may extend upto five times the value of goods or articles produced or sold or offered to be sold or affixed or applied with a Standard mark or both as per Section 29 of BIS Act, 2016.

Further, the authenticity of hallmarking can be verified in BIS Care Mobile App by feeding HUID number.

Bureau of Indian Standards has been carrying out a series of raids, as and when information is received about selling jewellery without HUID or fake Hallmark to protect the common consumer.
