The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has conducted a search and seizure operation at a helmet retail outlet in Nagpur for allegedly selling two-wheeler helmets without the mandatory BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark), in violation of the Helmet for Riders of Two Wheeler Motor Vehicles (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The operation was carried out on 14 July 2026 at DJ Helmet Shop, located at Kalpana Complex, Nari Ring Road, Kapil Nagar, Nagpur, following a complaint regarding the sale of non-certified helmets.

During the operation, BIS officials recovered 38 two-wheeler helmets that did not bear the mandatory ISI Mark. The seized stock comprised 27 helmets of the brand "RISHAB", 9 helmets of the brand "MAS", and one helmet each of the brands "STORM" and "OCEAN".

The action was taken for the alleged violation of the provisions of the Two Wheeler Helmet (Quality Control) Order, 2020 [S.O. 4252(E) dated 26 November 2020], read with Sections 17(1) and 17(3) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The non-conforming helmets have been seized as evidence for further investigation and legal proceedings.

BIS has initiated further action against the shop in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The Bureau of Indian Standards reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and maintaining the integrity of the national standards and certification system. Consumers have been advised to verify the authenticity and validity of BIS licences through the BIS Care App or the official BIS website before purchasing products covered under mandatory BIS certification.
