Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, will inaugurate a new Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) at Periyar Nagar, Chennai, on July 16, 2026. The launch of this facility, operating from the Sub Post Office premises in Periyar Nagar, marks a historic milestone for the Ministry of External Affairs as the Regional Passport Office (RPO) Chennai successfully achieves its target of establishing at least one functional Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or POPSK in every single Lok Sabha Constituency under its jurisdiction. The programme will also be attended by Dr. Kalanidhi Veerasamy, Member of Parliament for North Chennai, Members of Legislative Assembly, along with other dignitaries and senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts.

This collaborative initiative between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts highlights the government's commitment to delivering essential public services directly to the doorsteps of citizens, drastically reducing travel times and procedural delays.

As the 14th POPSK established under Regional Passport Office, Chennai, the Periyar Nagar facility is specifically designed to handle the high density of applicants from North Chennai and its neighbouring suburban areas. The center will initially cater to approximately 40 applicants per day, with plans to gradually scale up its processing capacity to 90 daily applications.
