NCC Team Rescues Local Resident Trapped in Well for 18 Hours Near NCC Camp, Wardha

In a remarkable display of courage and presence of mind, personnel of No. 3 Maharashtra (Girls) Battalion NCC, Nagpur, successfully rescued a local resident who had fallen into a well adjacent to the Camp Office of the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-605) being conducted in Wardha.

On 03 Jul 2026 at 1130 hrs, the Deputy Camp Commandant, Major Rizu Rawat, was approached by a local resident who reported hearing cries for help from a well. The woman informed him that her neighbour, Jeevan Taksande (55), a resident of Sevagram, Wardha, had fallen into the well and that none of the passers-by had stopped to help.

Upon receiving the information, Major Rizu Rawat informed the Camp Commandant, Lt Col Priti Tiwari, and immediately proceeded to the site along with Subedar Major Chandra Bhan Singh, Havildar (Nursing Assistant) Jangale G.B., Naik (Nursing Assistant) Ganesh, and MTS Driver Vishal.
A rescue operation was launched using ropes and safety equipment available at the camp. A rescue tube was also procured from NDRF personnel who were conducting a lecture for NCC cadets at the camp. The victim, who had fallen into the well at 1800 hrs on 02 Jul 2026, was safely rescued at 1200 hrs on 03 Jul 2026 after being trapped for approximately 18 hours. He was brought to the NCC camp, where first aid and medical attention were provided.

Expressing his gratitude, the survivor said, "I slipped and fell into the well on the evening of 02 Jul 2026. Because of the NCC staff, I have been given a new life today. They guided me, used a rescue tube to lift me out, and saved me. I sincerely thank all the staff of the NCC camp."
Lt Col Priti Tiwari, Officer Commanding, No. 3 Maharashtra (Girls) Battalion NCC, commended the team for its swift response and selfless service, stating that the incident exemplifies the NCC motto, 'Unity and Discipline.'
The prompt rescue reflects the NCC's commitment to nation-building and community service beyond its routine training activites.
