CSIR–Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, conducted a Gunvatta Yatra awareness programme on NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) Accreditation as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for testing laboratories on 03 July 2026. The programme was organized as part of the Quality Council of India's (QCI) Gunvatta Yatra initiative, which aims to promote quality awareness and strengthen quality systems across the country.

 

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC, Chennai, and Dr. S. Parivallal, Advisor (Management), CSIR-SERC, Chennai, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.

 

In her inaugural address, Dr. N. Anandavalli emphasized the importance of NABL accreditation in ensuring the technical competence, reliability, and credibility of testing laboratories. She highlighted that accreditation not only enhances confidence in test results but also enables laboratories to meet national and international quality standards, thereby supporting research, industry, and infrastructure development.

The technical session was delivered by Mr. Siribabu, Assistant Director, NABL, who explained the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the NABL accreditation process, and best laboratory practices. The interactive session addressed participants' queries and provided practical guidance on achieving and maintaining NABL accreditation.

 

The activities of QCI and its various boards were explained by Ms. Nethra G, Coordinator, NBQP. The programme provided a valuable platform for laboratory professionals to understand the benefits of accreditation and reaffirmed CSIR-SERC's commitment to promoting quality and excellence in testing laboratories. The event was coordinated by Dr. S. Maheswaran, Scientist -G and Head, SHRD Division.
