प्रविष्टि तिथि: 11 JUN 2026 3:59PM by PIB Thiruvananthpuram

EPFO Kochi & Lakshadweep Region achieved its highest-ever monthly performance under the Prayaas initiative by issuing 189 Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) on the date of retirement during May 2026. This marks a significant milestone in pension service delivery, with PPO issuance rising from 81 in April 2026 to 189 in May 2026, registering a 140 per cent growth and setting a new regional record. The Region's performance also reflects a remarkable national rise—from being ranked 13th in the country and first in the Zone in March 2026 to emerging as the top-performing Regional Office in the country for two consecutive months, recording the highest number of Prayaas PPOs in April (81) and May (189).

Prayaas, one of EPFO's most citizen-centric initiatives, ensures that retiring Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) members receive their PPOs on the date of retirement itself, enabling timely commencement of pension. The success of Prayaas is driven by close coordination among retiring members, employers and EPFO, with timely action by employers playing a critical role in ensuring seamless pension processing and delivery.

Ernakulam district led with 75 beneficiaries, followed by Thrissur (33) and Alappuzha (21), while Cherthala emerged as the leading locality with 12 pensioners receiving Prayaas PPOs. Fractional arrears, wherever applicable, have been credited to pensioners' bank accounts. The monthly pension for May 2026 will be credited on 30 June 2026, in accordance with the eligible date of commencement of pension.

The Kochi & Lakshadweep Region currently administers 1,33,928 Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) and disburses a monthly pension outgo of over ₹35.84 crore. During May 2026, the Region issued 809 PPOs and processed pension arrears exceeding ₹3.21 crore.

EPFO Kochi & Lakshadweep's digital service delivery has accelerated through technology-driven, non-human intervention processing. Since April 2026, 90,474 eligible claims, including advances up to ₹5 lakh, have been auto-settled within hours, enabling benefit disbursements exceeding ₹132.24 crore.

Shri Uttam Prakash, Provident Fund Commissioner, Kochi & Lakshadweep Region, urged employers to actively engage with EPFO's digital platforms so that members can fully benefit from citizen-centric, technology-enabled social security services.
