AIIMS Guwahati organised a Road Safety Awareness Programme today as part of the observance of Trauma Awareness Month. Held under the theme "Stay Focused, Stay Safe," the programme aimed to raise awareness about road traffic injuries, accident prevention and the importance of timely emergency response. The event also focused on promoting responsible road behaviour and strengthening the role of first responders in trauma care.

 

Road traffic accidents continue to be a major public health concern, resulting in significant loss of lives and injuries every year. In this context, the programme sought to sensitise participants on the importance of adherence to traffic rules, safe driving practices and prompt emergency assistance.

 

The programme commenced with a cycle rally to promote road safety awareness. A booklet on Road Safety Awareness was also released during the occasion. In addition, Team Nirbaak presented a mime performance highlighting the causes and consequences of road traffic accidents.

 

Technical sessions conducted by doctors of AIIMS Guwahati included demonstrations and interactive training on Basic Life Support and the role of first responders in emergency care situations.

 

The programme was attended by Prof. (Col.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati alongwith Prof. (Dr.) Anup Kumar Barman, Vice Chancellor, SSUHS; Shri Deba Kumar Mishra, ACS, District Commissioner, Kamrup; Shri Subhasish Baruah, APS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kamrup; and Shri Manoj Kumar Choudhury, District Transport Officer, Kamrup. The dignitaries addressed the gathering and shared their perspectives on road safety and accident prevention.

 

Around 400 participants, including senior school students, drivers, police personnel and first responders, attended the programme. Mr. Arshel Akhter, Bicycle Mayor, Guwahati, along with members of the cycling community, also participated in the cycle rally organised as part of the event.
