TPCI Organises India Food Manufacturing Summit – North East in Guwahati

The Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), in association with the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), organised the 6th Edition of the India Food Manufacturing Summit – North East in, Guwahati today.

The summit, held on the theme “Unlocking North East India’s Food Economy: From Farm Abundance to Global Value Chains”, focused on opportunities in food processing, value addition and market access for agricultural and horticultural products from the North East region.

During the programme, TPCI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NERAMAC for promotion of products from the North East and strengthening market linkages and trade opportunities for the region.

The summit discussed the potential of North East India in horticulture and organic products including pineapple, orange, banana, jackfruit, kiwi, passion fruit and tomato, besides GI-tagged and indigenous spice products such as Lakadong turmeric, ginger, large cardamom, black pepper and indigenous chillies. Speakers highlighted the need for greater value addition and food processing facilities in the region to reduce post-harvest losses and improve returns for farmers.

Technical sessions during the summit covered topics including value chains for ethnic foods, commercialisation of GI-tagged products, dairy sector development, bakery and ready-to-eat food products, and cold chain infrastructure in hilly regions. Discussions focused on processing technologies, farm-gate handling, storage, packaging and market access for products from the North East.

The summit also highlighted the upcoming Indusfood Show and Indusfood Manufacturing Exhibition 2027 scheduled to be held from January 6 to 8, 2027 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The event aims to connect food producers and processors with buyers, technology providers and international markets.

The programme also emphasised the importance of sustainable practices, energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly packaging solutions in the food processing sector. The summit provided a platform for interaction and collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and technology providers for strengthening the food processing ecosystem in the North East region.

Smt. Aruna Rajoria, IAS, Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Shri Bhaskar Barua, Managing Director, NERAMAC, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, was present as the Guest of Honour. The programme was also attended by Shri Satya Brata Bose, Managing Director, NEDFL (Purabi), Dr. Radhey Shyam Dixit, Founder and Chairman, Ananda Dairy, Dr. Basanti Barooah, Former Professor and Head, Assam Agricultural University, Ms. Bhavana Vishwanath, Country Director, Tolsma-Grisnich BV and Kiremko India, along with representatives from the food processing industry, academia and other stakeholders.
