BIS Chennai organises MSME Meet with Deep Tech & Emerging Tech Startups and MSMEs in collaboration with iTNT Hub

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Chennai Branch Office, in collaboration with iTamil Nadu Technology (iTNT) Hub, an initiative of Govt of Tamilnadu organised an “MSME Meet with Deep Tech & Emerging Tech Startups and MSMEs in Tamil Nadu” on 26 May 2026 at iTNT Hub, Anna University Campus, Chennai.

The awareness programme was aimed at helping Deep Tech and Emerging Tech startups, innovators and MSMEs understand the importance of Indian Standards and BIS Certification in commercialising products, ensuring quality, enhancing consumer confidence and enabling smooth market access.

In his address, Shri Muninarayana R Scientist–E / Director, BIS Chennai Branch Office highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by BIS to support startups and MSMEs through simplified certification processes, awareness programmes, technical guidance and stakeholder engagement activities. He stated that BIS is actively working towards creating an ecosystem where startups and MSMEs can align with standards at an early stage of product development, thereby improving product quality, safety, reliability and market competitiveness. He further emphasised that such collaborative programmes are intended to help emerging enterprises understand regulatory and certification requirements and facilitate easier access to national and global markets.
The programme featured a Technical Session on “Standards on Artificial Intelligence” delivered through virtual mode by Shri Chandra SRK, Engineering Manager and LITD 30 Sectional Committee Member, highlighting the growing importance of standardisation in emerging technologies and AI-based applications.
A technical session on Indian Standards relevant to iTNT sectors was delivered by Shri K. Sai Chandra, Scientist–C / Deputy Director, BIS Chennai Branch Office, covering standards applicable to sectors such as Electronics, EVs, Semiconductors, Healthcare, Sustainability, Aerospace and Enterprise Applications.
Shri L. Dhinesh Rajagopalan, Scientist–D / Joint Director, BIS Chennai, delivered a session on financial assistance schemes available for MSME clusters for creation of testing facilities, while Shri S. Murali, Scientist–C (Civil), National Test House (SR), addressed participants on assistance and testing support available to MSMEs through National Test House.
The programme also highlighted the role of BIS Certification in ensuring product reliability, credibility and consumer protection, along with guidance on certification requirements, processes, applicability and legal compliance for products entering the Indian market. Participants were also sensitised on common certification challenges and methods to navigate compliance requirements efficiently.
The programme witnessed active participation from startups, entrepreneurs, innovators, MSMEs and industry representatives from Deep Tech and Emerging Technology sectors across Tamil Nadu. The event concluded with an interactive discussion and clarification session, enabling participants to directly engage with experts and gain practical insights on standards, testing and certification requirements.
BIS regularly conducts awareness programmes, industry interactions and technical outreach initiatives to promote the adoption of Indian Standards and support startups, MSMEs and industries in strengthening quality, innovation and consumer trust.
