Pondicherry University celebrated the 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on 14 April 2026 at the B.R. Ambedkar Administrative Building of Pondicherry University. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu addressed the faculty, staff and students gathered by highlighting the great contribution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, especially in the areas of architecting our Constitution, leading as the first Law Minister of Independent India, playing a crucial role in uplifting the oppressed and marginalized segments of society, endeavouring to eliminate social disparities and discrimination, continuing to serve as a source of inspiration for advocating social justice, women's rights, and labour reforms, and conceptualizing the idea of the formation of the Reserve Bank of India.

He specifically urged the faculty, research scholars, and students to undertake scholarly research on his mission and vision. “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar did not just dream of equality – he designed a nation where equality could be lived,” he said, calling on everyone to move forward in fulfilling that dream. He highlighted Ambedkar's role as a champion of social justice, particularly in advancing women's rights. He also urged today's India to prioritize social inclusion, access to education, and skill development.

 

Prof. Bhushan D. Sudhakar, Liaison Officer of the Special Reservation Cell, welcomed the gathering. Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu, Director of Studies, Prof. P. Natarajan, Director of Culture and Cultural Relations; Registrar Prof. K. Gunasekaran, Prof. M. Krishna Murthy, Finance Officer and other statutory officers, Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty members, Officers, Staff and Students in good numbers participated in the event. Dr. Ajay Babu, Deputy Registrar (Academic) and Special Reservation Cell coordinated the event.
