DGTS, Mumbai Zonal Unit Organises Seminar-cum-Webinar on “Decoding GST and Taxpayers Grievance Redressal Mechanisms” at New Panvel

The Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), Mumbai Zonal Unit, commenced the Financial Year 2026–27 with its first Seminar-cum-Webinar, organised in collaboration with Janardan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha’s Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel and C. K. Thakur A.C.S. College, New Panvel, on the topic “Decoding GST and Taxpayers Grievance Redressal Mechanisms”. It was held today (4th April, 2026) in hybrid mode, with an aim to introduce key GST concepts and grievance redressal mechanisms to students, budding legal professionals, and future practitioners in the field of taxation and law.

The seminar was graced by Dr. S. T. Gadade, Secretary, Janardan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha; Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh, Principal, BCT College of Law and Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Patil, Principal, C. K. Thakur A.C.S. College. The programme witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, officers, and stakeholders from both physical and virtual platforms.

The Seminar-cum-Webinar was addressed by Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, DGTS, MZU, who highlighted the importance of taxpayer awareness, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the role of DGTS in bridging the gap between tax administration and stakeholders through education and outreach initiatives. He appreciated the collaborative efforts of the academic institutions and emphasised the importance of such partnerships in enhancing practical knowledge among students.

The seminar focused on simplifying GST provisions and providing clarity on taxpayer grievance redressal mechanisms. The session highlighted the importance of understanding GST in everyday economic activities, as well as its growing relevance for students and professionals in the fields of law, commerce, and taxation. It also emphasised the wide range of career opportunities available in indirect taxation, including litigation, advisory, compliance, and consultancy.

The technical session was delivered by Shri Deepak Mata, Deputy Commissioner, CGST, Mumbai, who shared his extensive experience of nearly three decades in Customs and GST administration. He provided valuable insights into GST provisions, grievance redressal frameworks, and practical aspects of compliance. His contribution to GST knowledge dissemination, including preparation of FAQs, e-learning modules, and training resources, was also highlighted during the session.

The programme reflected DGTS’s continued commitment to strengthening taxpayer outreach through academic collaborations and awareness initiatives. Such engagements play a crucial role in equipping students and stakeholders with knowledge of taxation systems and promoting a culture of voluntary compliance.

 

About Directorate General of Taxpayer Services:

DGTS is a dedicated wing of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, which is mandated to promote taxpayer awareness, stakeholder engagement, and effective grievance redressal in respect of indirect taxes.
