NHAI Awards Contract for Construction of Four Lane Expressway to Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra

NHAI has issued Letter of Award (LOA) for the construction of four lane expressway from Vadhavan Port to Tava Village on NH-48 in Maharashtra. The project has been awarded to Joint Venture M/s J. Kumar Infraprojects Limited and M/s Shinde Developers Pvt. Ltd. for an amount of Rs. 2,360 crores on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. Connecting Delhi- Mumbai Expressway (NE4) and NH 48, the expressway will provide seamless port connectivity to various regions in the state.

The project includes construction of 32.1 km long access-controlled expressway with an 800-meter-long twin tube tunnel along with implementation of two major bridges, One twin tube tunnel, two interchanges, 33 minor bridges, six flyovers, 84 culverts, one Railway over Bridge, seven Vehicular Underpass (VUP), 24 LVUP, four SVUP and two Wayside Amenities. The four-lane alignment of the access-controlled expressway will be expandable to eight lanes in the future.

Vadhavan port will be developed as a major port with proposed 23.2 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of Container Handling capacity. The port will have natural draft of 20 meters and will be operational in two phases. The first phase with container handling capacity of 15 million TEUs is likely to be operational by 2030.

Once completed, the access-controlled expressway will boost regional connectivity, lower logistics costs and support long-term economic growth while providing faster port connectivity in the region.
