As part of the continued efforts to accelerate district-level action in the national HIV response, the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, is intensifying its engagement with States across the country through a series of ‘Suraksha Sankalp Karyashalas’, with the next workshop scheduled to be held in Hyderabad, Telangana on 25th March 2026.

Chaired by Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Additional Secretary & Director General, NACO, the Karyashala will bring together key stakeholders from the State and district-level programme functionaries. Dr. S. Sangeetha Satyanarayana, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Telangana and Project Director, Telangana State AIDS Control Society, will also be present during the workshop. Alongside District Collectors, Additional District Collectors, District Medical & Health Officer and District AIDS Control Officers from across the State will also participate to review progress and chart the way forward for HIV epidemic control in the state.

This initiative is being undertaken under the larger framework of Mission AIDS Suraksha, through which NACO is engaging with States to strengthen programme implementation in districts contributing significantly to the HIV burden.

Telangana whose prevalence is 0.41 and PLHIV burden is 1,56,961 has been identified as a priority State under this focused approach, with total of 19 priority districts including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Siddipet, Medak, Warangal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Peddapalli, Jangaon, Vikarabad, Kamareddy, Hanumakonda, Sangareddy, Mahabubabad and Jayashankar Bhupalapally identified for intensified programme action. Representatives from these districts will present progress, discuss challenges and develop targeted strategies for strengthening service delivery.

District teams from these priority districts will present their progress, highlight operational challenges, and develop targeted strategies to enhance service delivery. The discussions will focus on improving access to HIV prevention and testing services, strengthening linkage and retention on treatment, and ensuring better health outcomes for people living with HIV.

By driving coordinated action from the national to the district level, these Karyashalas are reinforcing a data-driven and decentralised approach to programme implementation. The initiative is expected to significantly accelerate progress towards national HIV/AIDS control targets and India’s commitment to end AIDS as a public health threat.
