PRIME MINISTER SHRI NARENDRA MODI INAUGURATES REDEVELOPED SHORANUR JUNCTION AND KUTTIPPURAM STATIONS UNDER THE AMRIT BHARAT STATION SCHEME & DEDICATES THE ELECTRIFICATION OF THE SHORANUR–NILAMBUR SECTION TO THE NATION

Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Shoranur Junction and Kuttippuram Railway Stations, both upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme , and dedicated the electrification of the Shoranur–Nilambur Road section to the nation, via video conferencing from Kochi.

Shoranur Junction Railway Station: A Modernised Gateway for Kerala's Key Rail Corridor

Shoranur Junction, one of Kerala's most strategically significant railway stations connecting routes to Palakkad, Kozhikode, Nilambur, and Ernakulam, has been comprehensively redeveloped at a sanctioned cost of ₹37.10 crore. The redevelopment delivers a wide range of upgrades spanning passenger amenities, accessibility, aesthetics, and operational efficiency — transforming Shoranur into a modern, passenger-friendly hub. Shoranur Junction now stands as a revitalised station — fit to serve the growing demands of one of Kerala's busiest rail corridors.

 

The local function held at Shoranur Junction was graced by the presence of Shri V.K. Sreekandan, Member of Parliament; Shri P. Mammikkutty, Member of Legislative Assembly; Shri R. S. Gahlot, Principal Chief Engineer, Southern Railway; and Shri S. Jayakrishnan, Chief Project Manager/ Gatisakti, along with senior officials from Palakkad Division. Several public representatives and prominent personalities were also in attendance. A vibrant public function was organised at the station, which featured cultural performances by children and railway employees, setting a celebratory tone ahead of the inauguration.

Kuttippuram Railway Station: A Modern Gateway for the Malappuram Region

Kuttippuram Railway Station, an important hub serving Malappuram and its surrounding areas, has been comprehensively redeveloped at a sanctioned cost of ₹16.12 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project has transformed the station into a modern, accessible, and passenger-friendly facility, with upgrades spanning infrastructure, amenities, and passenger circulation. Kuttippuram station now stands as a fitting reflection of Indian Railways' commitment to modernising regional infrastructure, offering passengers across the Malappuram region a safer, more comfortable, and better-connected travel experience.

 

The local event at Kuttippuram witnessed the participation of Member of Legislative Assembly, Prof. Abid Hussain Thangal; Shri Mastan Rao, Chief Project Director, Southern Railway; Shri K. Anil Kumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, and officials of the Palakkad Division. Public representatives and noted local personalities joined the celebrations. A cultural programme by schoolchildren and railway staff captivated the audience prior to the formal inauguration.

 

These redeveloped stations mark a significant step in Indian Railways’ mission to enhance the quality of travel for passengers while also honouring local heritage and ensuring long-term sustainability.

 

Strengthening Rail Infrastructure and Connectivity in Kerala

The dedication of the Shoranur–Nilambur railway section's electrification to the nation by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marks a significant milestone in the region's rail infrastructure development. Electrification brings with it a range of tangible benefits — greater operational efficiency, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and the ability to introduce modern electric train services on the section.

Together with the upgraded station infrastructure, enhanced passenger amenities, and the launch of new MEMU services on the electrified section, these developments promise meaningfully better connectivity, improved travel comfort, and faster journeys for passengers across the region.

 

These projects are a testament to Indian Railways' sustained commitment to modernising stations, expanding the electrified network, and delivering efficient, sustainable, and passenger-centric rail services throughout the country.
