Buyer–Seller Meet on Turmeric Organized at Nanded to Strengthen Farmer–Exporter Linkages

A Buyer–Seller Meet on Turmeric was organized today at VITS Hotel, Nanded, Maharashtra by the National Turmeric Board in association with Spices Board India bringing together turmeric farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) from Maharashtra and exporters, industry representatives and government officials from across the country to promote trade opportunities and strengthen market linkages in the turmeric sector.

Shri Rahul Kardhile, IAS, Collector and District Magistrate, Nanded, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Smt. N. Bhavani Sri, IAS, Secretary, National Turmeric Board, who delivered the keynote address. Dr. Shivaji Rao Shinde, Associate Dean, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV), Parbhani, and representatives of the Hon’ble Balasaheb Thakrey Haridra Research and Training Center, Hingoli, participated as distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. N. Bhavani Sri, IAS, highlighted the importance of quality production and traceability in strengthening India’s leadership in global turmeric trade. She said, “India has a strong global reputation for turmeric, and improving quality standards, traceability and value addition will be key to enhancing export opportunities for our farmers and industry.”

Shri Rahul Kardhile, IAS, emphasized the role of coordinated efforts among farmers, institutions and exporters in strengthening the turmeric value chain. He noted, “Platforms like Buyer–Seller Meets help farmers connect directly with markets and create new opportunities for value addition and better price realization.

Dr. Shivaji Rao Shinde, Associate Dean, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV), Parbhani, spoke about the role of research institutions in developing improved cultivation practices and technologies to enhance productivity and quality.

Shri Hemant Patil, Hon'ble MLA and Chairman, Hon’ble Balasaheb Thakrey Haridra Research and Training Center, Hingoli, sent a message through his representative stressing on the importance of strengthening turmeric-based industries and farmer participation in value-added activities.

During the programme, technical sessions were conducted by experts from the Agriculture Department, Industries Department of the state government. Exporter associations (ISFEA)  and research institutions (Hon’ble Balasaheb Thakrey Haridra Research and Training Center, Hingoli) delivered valuable sessions. The sessions covered topics such as enhancing productivity and quality in turmeric cultivation, export quality standards and residue compliance, value addition opportunities, and organic turmeric production technologies.

The event also featured experience-sharing sessions by progressive farmers on organic turmeric cultivation and marketing of GI-tagged Waigaon turmeric. A dedicated networking session between buyers, exporters, farmers and FPOs facilitated discussions on trade partnerships and procurement opportunities.

Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by Shri Simanta Saikia, Deputy Director, Spices Board, Regional Office, Mumbai, who highlighted the objective of the meet in promoting collaboration across the turmeric value chain. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mamta Krishna Dhankute, Assistant Director, Spices Board, Regional Office, Mumbai.

The Buyer–Seller Meet served as an important platform for strengthening linkages between producers and exporters, promoting quality production and encouraging value addition in the turmeric sector.
