ICAR-IARI Assam to organize Kisan Mela 2026 on “Natural Farming for Sustainable Livelihood”

The ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), Assam, will organize “Kisan Mela 2026” on 28th February 2026 at its campus at Dirpai Chapori, Gogamukh, Dhemaji, Assam. The mela will be held on the theme “Natural Farming for Sustainable Livelihood” under the leadership of Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, IARI.
The programme aims to promote eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, strengthen farmer–scientist interaction, and enhance livelihood opportunities for farming communities across Assam and the North-Eastern region. The event will be graced by Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest. District Commissioners, senior administrative officials, and representatives from agriculture and allied departments will also attend as distinguished guests.
More than 1,000 stakeholders, including farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, extension personnel, students, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), are expected to attend the mela.
Around 30 exhibition stalls will be set up to showcase natural farming practices, improved agricultural technologies, farm mechanization solutions, innovations in animal husbandry and fisheries, and value-addition opportunities. The mela will also feature technical sessions, awareness programmes, presentations of success stories by progressive farmers, and interactive platforms aimed at encouraging the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
“Kisan Mela 2026” is expected to serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, technology dissemination, and collaborative efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote sustainable agricultural development in the North-Eastern region.
