CSIR-CSMCRI inks Technology Transfer Pact with Jagrit Chemicals for Seaweed Bio-Stimulants

Bhavnagar based, premier research institute of CSIR, Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI) has successfully transferred two innovative seaweed-based agricultural technologies to Jagrit Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd., Kolkata. The technologies include Kappaphycus alvarezii sap (K-Sap), derived from red seaweed, and the liquid seaweed plant bio-stimulant (LSPB), produced from brown algae (Sargassum spp.). These eco-friendly formulations are designed to enhance crop growth, nutrient uptake, and yield while reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, thereby supporting sustainable farming practices.

Dr. KB Pandey, a scientist of business development group informed that the agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Arup Ghosh, Director, CSIR-CSMCRI; Dr. Kamalesh Prasad, Head of business development; Dr. Shibaji Ghosh, Dr. Kandeeban and Mr. Mukesh Lodha, Jagrit Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd., and others.

Dr. Prasad emphasized that the transfer reflects CSIR-CSMCRI’s commitment to harnessing marine bio-resources for agricultural innovation. Mr. Lodha expressed enthusiasm about bringing these technologies to farmers across India, highlighting their potential to transform crop productivity and promote eco-friendly solutions. This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing sustainable agriculture and commercializing marine bio-resources in India, reinforcing the role of science and industry in building a resilient bio-economy.
