ENHANCING ANTI-DOPING MEASURES

The Government intends to take follow-up measures to enhance anti-doping enforcement based on the insights gained from the WADA’s Global Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network (GAIIN) Workshops held in New Delhi from 12-16th May 2025 and 21-25th July 2025. These follow-up includes Capacity Building of the NADA Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) staff and enhanced cooperation with WADA, National law enforcement and regulatory bodies to proactively detect and address doping-related violations.

The GAIIN Workshop witnessed participation from over 25 countries in both workshops, with   representation   from   various   Asian   nations   including   Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan and Timor Leste among others. Delegates included officials from NADOs (National Anti-Doping Organizations) and law enforcement agencies. Prominent global agencies such as INTERPOL, and the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) also actively participated and led technical sessions and case study discussions during the workshop.

The Government is committed to ensure clean sport and has taken several steps to strengthen intelligence-gathering and investigative mechanisms, such as:

  • Institutional strengthening of NADA’s I&I infrastructure, including the recruitment and training of specialized personnel.
  • Coordination with Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other law enforcement agency to combat the trafficking and misuse of performance-enhancing substances.
  • Enhancing the legal framework by aligning national anti-doping rules with the WADA Code and adopting international best practices in enforcement.
  • Intelligence-gathering & Information exchange with the WADA & other stakeholders to ensure clean sport in India
  • Data analytics for proactive risk identification and targeted testing.

This information was given by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
