Muhammed Sidan P., an 11-year-old student of Class VI from Palakkad district in Kerala, has been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for his outstanding courage and presence of mind in saving the lives of his classmates.
The award was presented by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremony held in New Delhi on December 26, 2025, recognising children for exceptional achievements in the fields of Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture, and Science & Technology.
The brave act took place while Muhammed Sidan P. and his friends were waiting for their school bus. One of his classmates accidentally touched a live electric post and suffered an electric shock. When another child attempted to help and was also electrocuted, Sidan acted swiftly. Remembering the safety advice given by his mother, he used a wooden log to pull both children away from the electric source, thereby preventing a potentially fatal incident.
His timely intervention saved two lives and averted a serious tragedy. For his courageous action, Muhammed Sidan P. was earlier appreciated by the Kerala State Electricity Board and felicitated by the Palakkad Electrical Inspectorate and his school. He was also commended by Kerala’s General Education Minister, Shri V. Sivankutty. The incident received wide coverage across print and digital media platforms.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is the highest civilian award for children in India and is instituted to honour young achievers whose actions reflect courage, responsibility and service to society. Muhammed Sidan P.’s exemplary conduct highlights the importance of awareness and presence of mind in emergency situations and serves as an inspiration to children across the country.
