BIS conducts Manak Samvad in Coimbatore

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, organised the “MANAK SAMVAD – Sensitization Meeting with New BIS Licensees” at Jenneys Residency, Coimbatore on December 18, 2025. The programme witnessed the participation of 69 representatives from the top management of recently licensed manufacturing units across various sectors.
BIS plays a pivotal role in strengthening the national quality ecosystem through its Product Certification (ISI Mark), Management Systems Certification, Hallmarking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts, and Laboratory Testing Services. The grant of a BIS licence involves comprehensive evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control systems, testing capabilities, and conformity to relevant Indian Standards.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Smt. G. Bhavani, Scientist-F / Senior Director & Head, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, who outlined the objectives of the Manak Samvad initiative. She emphasized the critical role of BIS in enhancing product quality and safety, and highlighted the importance of licensees’ continued compliance and commitment to Indian Standards.

This was followed by detailed technical presentations on BIS activities, e-BIS portal, BIS Care App, and the Operation of BIS Licence, including recent guidelines, delivered by Shri V. Ramesh, Scientist-E / Director, Shri Rino John S., Scientist-E / Director, and Shri Vinith Kumar G., Scientist-E / Director, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office. The sessions provided clarity on operational procedures, compliance requirements, and effective utilization of BIS digital platforms.
As part of the programme, each newly licensed manufacturer was presented with a Licence Kit comprising the original BIS Licence document, Grant of Licence (GoL) Letter, a pen drive containing relevant Indian Standards, Product Manuals, and operational guidelines, by the Head, CTBO.
An interactive discussion session followed, during which participants actively engaged with BIS officials, seeking clarifications on their roles, responsibilities, and the benefits of BIS certification. A presentation on Standard Promotion Activities (SPA) undertaken by BIS was also delivered, wherein licensees were encouraged to support and actively participate in spreading awareness about quality and Indian Standards. The initiative was well received, with participants expressing their willingness to contribute towards quality promotion.
Participants appreciated the informative and structured sessions, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to directly interact with BIS officials. They acknowledged the clarity gained on licence operations and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining quality and safety through adherence to Indian Standards.
The programme concluded successfully, reinforcing BIS’s role as a facilitator in industry quality improvement and strengthening the partnership between BIS and certified manufacturers.
