D.E.S.I.G.N for BioE3 Challenge is open for 1 year. December cycle closes on 20th December 2025


Category 1 of D.E.S.I.G.N for BioE3 -10 Certificates of Merit (Class 6 to 12th)

Category 2 of D.E.S.I.G.N for BioE3 - Rs. 1 Lakhs cash prize for top 10 solutions and chance to apply to BIRAC for a Rs.25 Lakh grant (Any Indian Citizen can apply)

The Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) policy on 24th August 2024. BioE3 policy formulated by Department of Biotechnology creates a convergence between biotech, engineering and digitalization for building a more equitable and sustainable future through Bio-manufacturing. BioE3 policy envisages green, clean, prosperous and Atmanirbhar Bharat making giant strides towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

Echoing the Prime Minister's call for youth participation on 15th of August 2025, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (I/C) for Science and Technology, launched the "D.E.S.I.G.N for BioE3 Challenge"—themed "Empowering Youth to Solve Critical Issues of their TIMES” in two categories. The category1 is open to school students from class 6 to class 12. On the other hand, and category 2 of the challenge is open all Indian citizens. This call aims to empower grassroots innovators, foster youth-lead change, and strengthen India’s journey towards sustainable and self-reliant bioeconomy.

Key Dates: DESIGN for BioE3 a year-long challenge, will open on the 1st of every month until 1st October 2026 The first month of the challenge closed recently on Nov 20th 2025.

The 2nd month of the challenge will open on 1st December and close on 20th December 2025.

Students are expected to display their basic understanding of the BioE3 Policy and its possible implementation through imaginative, creative and concise videos. Participants are encouraged to highlight the novelty, feasibility, and potential contribution of their ideas towards a sustainable, clean, and self-reliant future for our country.

Prizes on Offer:

Category 1:

  • Certificate of Merit to top 10 performers signed by Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) for S & T every month for the next 12 months starting from 1st November 2025
  • 20–30 additional participants will be awarded certificates of appreciation every month for the next 12 months starting from 1st November 2025
  • Selected students may also get access to facilities and resources at BIRAC’s EYUVA/BioNEST incubation centres to further test and validate their ideas

Category 2:

  • Top 10 winning solutions will receive Rs 1.00 Lakh each (1st Round) every month for the next 12 months starting from 1st November 2025
  • Up to 100 grants with upper limit of INR 25 lakh each to help winners convert their Design ideas to real-world solutions through Round 2
