The Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the strategic guidance of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, launched the Bharat Innovates 2026 programme to advance its objective of presenting India’s most promising deep-tech innovations to a global stage. Following the earlier announcement of the event, the initiative has completed the first phase of its competitive screening pipeline. This was accompanied by a rigorous, multi-stage selection process, through which approximately 400 startups and deep-tech innovations have been shortlisted for Bharat Innovates 2026 National Basecamp. This event will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) from December 18 to 20, 2025, in joint coordination with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB).
The three-day basecamp offers the shortlisted participants a unique opportunity to present their products, prototypes, and innovations in closed-door pitching sessions to a distinguished assembly of experts from the fields of science, technology, business, and policy. These jury panels will provide rigorous feedback and identify solutions with the highest potential for global scaling and economic impact. Based on their evaluation, startups and innovations will be selected to form the final delegation that will present at the International Showcase to be held in 2026.
The National Basecamp will showcase an exposition of Make-in-India innovations that will drive the nation’s product-based economy. Innovators leading this charge hail from India’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs), including IITs, NITs, IISERs, and others. The presentations the exposition will encompass innovations across 13 distinct technological domains, including Advanced Computing (Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Supercomputing); Advanced Materials, Rare-Earth and Critical Minerals; Semiconductors; Space and Defence; Energy, Sustainability & Climate Change; Smart Cities & Mobility; Disaster Management & Resilient Infrastructure; Healthcare and MedTech; Biotechnology; Agri & Food Technologies; Blue Economy; Manufacturing & Industry 4.0; and Next-Generation Communications.
As a reflection of India’s ambition to translate its R&D strength into globally competitive technologies, Bharat Innovates 2026 is a step towards accelerating the innovation-led economic growth envisaged under the Viksit Bharat 2047 mandate. The National Basecamp is open to innovation stakeholders, including investors, venture capitalists, incubation and accelerator networks, technology partners, industry leaders, and sci-tech enthusiasts. The event promises an opportunity to engage with high-quality, IP-backed innovations across diverse sectors of national importance.
